Historic Preservation

Historical buildings hold a unique charm and feel. They offer a glimpse into a simpler time and provide an opportunity to honor the past while serving contemporary needs, like housing, hospitality, and more. The TJK team has experience navigating the complexities of historic preservation and adaptive reuse projects. We identify potential challenges at each phase of construction—including balancing historic preservation standards with modern code compliance—and deliver solutions that align with our customers’ vision.

This property, listed on both the national and state registers of historic places, was once home to a Model A assembly factory in the early 1900s. These photos capture the original building components that our team was able to preserve and rehabilitate, including original hardwood flooring, tin ceilings, steel beams, and mosaic tiling. The last two images show a unique lofted unit that was once home to a large wooden ramp used to move automobiles between floors.
