The future home of Smart Cleaning Solutions, an industrial flex building.

Starting a ground-up project can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re new to any remodel or construction activities. At TJK, we pride ourselves on making sure customers feel confident and involved throughout the entire process, from finalizing floor plans, to completing bidding, to picking finishes. Our collaborative approach transforms construction into an energizing, rewarding process that realizes the customer’s vision.

Adapting During Construction

Once construction starts, customers often have new ideas or desire changes. The design-build model excels at accommodating evolving needs. When a modification is requested, our architect can quickly make adjustments and send a formal plan change to our field crew, who then processes the changes and may call the architect directly with questions—no time lost! With the traditional construction model of architect and contractor independent of one another, even a small change or clarifying question could mean a minimum of a week’s delay, with all construction activity put on pause. TJK doesn’t have these types of delays.

Engaging Through Site Visits

As construction progresses, we offer customers on-site walk-throughs to keep them engaged and reassure them that we’re on track to meet our deadlines.

Customizing Finishes and Functions

Once it’s time to select elements like flooring, paint, countertops, etc., our customers can choose options unique to their vision and the functionality of the space. For example, our customer James Sutton, owner of Madison-based Smart Cleaning Solutions (SCS), chose an all-black exterior for his space, including metal siding, mullions on the doors and windows, and soffits. As another example of customization, if you were to tour this new industrial flex building, you’d identify a notable pitch in the floor; this is to accommodate wastewater from vehicle detailing activities a portion of the building will be used for.

Celebrating Milestones and Success

To help highlight the start of ground-up projects and celebrate their completion, we typically hold both a groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony. It seems to be a part of our human condition to breeze over wins and re-focus on the next “fire” or project, but it’s important for us to pause, acknowledge our efforts, and celebrate victories. These ceremonies are always fun occasions to congregate and thank all the integral members of these projects, and watching a customer’s vision come to life never gets old.

Once a project is complete, we’re still only a phone call away if there are any issues or questions. At TJK, we understand that buildings are more than a collection of materials—they’re a reflection of their occupants, their neighbors, and the city they’re part of.
